Couplers and splitters are used extensively in fiber optic telecommunication networks where they expand system reach while minimizing the use of expensive electronics. The performance and reliability of these passive components have a considerable impact on the overall link loss and reliability of the system.
MinoTech Engineering consultants have been innovative leaders in the development, optimization and automated manufacture of fused biconic couplers. Our successes have included:
- Development and Implementation: of low cost automated manufacture of fused biconic taper (FBT) couplers and WDMs for deployment in Passive Optical Networks.
- Resolution of Manufacturing Issues: including fiber stripping, fusion heat treatment, assembly, epoxy bonding, packaging and process optimization including Telcordia GR-1209 and GR1221.
Our engineers and scientists have experience designing connectors, terminations, cable assemblies and many different sensor types, including evanescent wave and micro-bending devices. Our areas of interest include:
- Sensors and Actuators: for aircraft control systems (Fly by Light), fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG), optical time domain multiplex (TDM) and optical wavelength domain multiplex (WDM) systems, fiber-optic avionic data bus technologies including ring, linear and star architectures.
- Patchcords, Connectors, Terminations, and Cable Assemblies: Telcordia (Bellcore) GR-326-CORE for Singlemode Optical Connectors and Jumper Assemblies, Connector testing.
- Terminations: for many applications, including high power large core multimode laser fiber.
- Design and Implementation: Complex DWDM modules for long haul, regional, metro and access networks
Our engineers and scientists have contributed to product and process development and manufacturing improvement for:
- Fiber Amplifiers and Lasers: 40G EDFA gain controlled product
- DWDM Modules: developed for top-tier customers
- High Power Fiber Amplifiers: Laser based Yb-Er codoped double clad fiber
